The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids Honors Mônica Andreis for Nearly Two Decades of Leadership in Tobacco Control

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is proud to recognize Mônica Andreis, Executive Director of ACT Promoção da Saúde, for her outstanding leadership and nearly two decades of commitment to advancing tobacco control in Brazil and across Latin America. A psychologist by training, Mônica co-founded ACT in 2006 and has since guided the organization to become a national and regional leader in protecting public health from the harms of tobacco use and the interference of the tobacco industry. Under her leadership, ACT has played a decisive role in securing transformative policies, including comprehensive smoke-free laws, bans on tobacco advertising and e-cigarettes, stronger health warnings, and the inclusion of tobacco in Brazil’s 2024 tax reform.
For 18 years, ACT and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids have worked in close partnership to advance and defend tobacco control policies in Brazil and the wider region. Mônica has also been a consistent voice on the global stage, representing Brazil at every Conference of the Parties (COP) to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control since 2008, and serving in leadership roles with global alliances dedicated to ending tobacco’s toll.
Her visionary leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative approach have helped make Brazil a global reference point in tobacco control, despite the country’s role as one of the world’s largest tobacco producers. Mônica’s contributions have inspired advocates across Latin America and beyond, leaving a legacy of courage, persistence, and progress toward a tobacco-free future.
