Tobacco-Free Kids Mourns the Passing of John Lewis

July 18, 2020
Statement of Matthew L. Myers, President, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Lewis was an American hero who set an unmatched example of bravery and commitment to freedom and justice for all. John Lewis dedicated his life to fighting for civil rights and equality, from his early years as a Freedom Rider to the courage he showed standing up to violence on the Edmund Pettus Bridge to more than 30 years of service in Congress, where he was known as the “Conscience of the Congress.”

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids joins the nation in mourning the loss of this great American, and we send our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. There is no better way to honor him than for all of us to commit to finishing his work of ending injustice in our nation.
