This much-needed bill ends the sale of flavored tobacco products. This includes menthol cigarettes – which the tobacco industry has long used to target and addict kids, especially in communities of color – and flavored e-cigarettes, which are fueling a new youth nicotine addiction crisis.
 
Driven by thousands of flavors from gummy worm and cotton candy to mint and mango, more than two million U.S. kids are vaping – including more than 1 in 4 Maine high school students, a rate that has nearly doubled in recent years. An overwhelming majority of them say flavors are the reason why.
 
Meanwhile, menthol makes it easier to start smoking and harder to quit. In fact, half high school smokers use menthol cigarettes. And due to targeted tobacco industry marketing, 85% of Black smokers use menthols.

Ending flavored tobacco sales would also be a political win. A recent poll shows that Maine voters favor this policy by a 2:1 margin.

Every day that flavored tobacco products are on the market, Maine's kids are at risk. Let's put their health above Big Tobacco's profits. Please call LD1215 for a vote without delay.
