Please don't allow the sale of flavored e-cigarettes back into our state. Vote NO on S. 543 – and oppose including any similar language in the state budget.

In 2020, the Rhode Island Department of Health issued regulations prohibiting the sale of flavored e-cigarettes. Why? Because 90% of all kids who vape use flavored products. And it's no wonder. E-cigarette manufacturers target kids with fun flavors, like cherry crush and cotton candy, and massive doses of nicotine. The latest vapes can contain as much nicotine as 200 cigarettes or more, putting kids at risk of quick and severe addiction. Rhode Island's existing regulations help protect our kids from these dangerous products.

Just last year, you codified these regulations, improving enforcement and allowing retailers to sell menthol vapes, which they claimed they needed to stay in business and allow adult smokers to have some flavored products to help them quit. Now vape shop owners want you to toss out the entire law! We need to let these new changes take effect and not weaken them more to protect the profits of a predatory industry.

No state that has passed bans on the sale of flavored vapes has rolled those back. In fact, some have significantly strengthened them. Rhode Island shouldn't be the only such state that's more concerned with tobacco industry profits than kids' health.
