This misguided "preemption" legislation – backed by Big Tobacco – would roll back local laws that protect kids from tobacco products, including e-cigarettes. It would also prevent Missouri communities from passing any new ones. You must do all you can to ensure this damaging legislation doesn't pass.

In communities across our state, parents, teachers, doctors, and local elected officials have come together to decide what's best for their kids. HB-344 would undo this work, decimate local tobacco prevention efforts, and give the tobacco industry free reign to prey on our kids. Big Tobacco has used preemption for decades across the country to stop any local laws that would protect kids from tobacco addiction.

Keep in mind: This bill would allow tobacco retailers to sell near schools, prohibit localities from restricting the sale and marketing of flavored tobacco products, eliminate local laws that require tobacco retailers to obtain a license, and freeze minimum sale age laws.

But whether you agree with a particular local law or not, you should still be on the side of local control.

Please do the right thing for Missouri kids and communities and oppose HB-344 and any similar legislation.
