In Conversation with Teresa Thomas-Boyd

In this edition of the Take Down, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids’ Amani Desamours interviews Pastor Teresa Thomas-Boyd, a pastor of Matters of the Heart Christian Ministries who has been a community organizer for 25 years.

Pastor Teresa’s work is focused on addressing tobacco-related health disparities faced by Black Americans and other marginalized communities through a faith-based lens.

We sat down with Pastor Teresa to talk about No Menthol Sunday, an annual event organized by the Center for Black Health & Equity that brings together faith communities across the country to address the detrimental impact that tobacco — especially menthol cigarettes — on Black communities.

Ahead of No Menthol Sunday 2023 (May 21), Pastor Teresa shared her knowledge of advocacy, organizing, the toll of tobacco use on Black Americans, and the role of faith leaders in the fight to eliminate menthol cigarettes and other flavored tobacco products.

No Menthol Sunday gives us an opportunity across the country to stand together and lift voices that are meaningful and powerful in the fight to ban menthol cigarettes.
