In Conversation with Laphonza Butler
President of EMILY's List

In 2022, exciting challenges and big opportunities lie ahead. For Laphonza Butler, the new president of EMILY’s List, this rings especially true. As the nation’s leading organization committed to electing pro-choice women, EMILY’s List plays a critical role in empowering women to improve public health. We had a wonderful conversation with Laphonza about advocacy and the important year ahead in this edition of “The Take Down.”

Throughout her career, Laphonza has been a leading strategist helping elect Democratic women. A long-time supporter of Kamala Harris in her California runs, she was a key leader in Vice President Harris’s presidential campaign. Prior to that, she served as a senior advisor to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Further, Laphonza spent 10 years as president of the largest labor union in California – SEIU Local 2015 – where she led successful efforts to address pay inequity for women and raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour.

In this can’t-miss interview, Laphonza speaks about her vision and goals for EMILY’s List and shares valuable advice for the tobacco control movement and advocates everywhere.
