This conversation featured leading Black voices from a cross section of advocacy organizations discussing the topic of Intergenerational Tobacco Use and Its Cultural Impact on Black Communities.

Tobacco use is one of our greatest public health challenges. Through the targeted marketing of menthol cigarettes and other products, the tobacco industry has destroyed Black health and lives for generations.

In addition, certain socio-environmental factors prevailing in the home, including parental tobacco use, influence whether younger generations adopt cigarette smoking and other types of tobacco use. A deeper understanding of this intergenerational transmission will help educate participants, key stakeholders and communities of color, and provide further insight into avenues of prevention.
