The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is looking for an enthusiastic people operations professional to join an emerging people and culture team which supports our commitment to a collaborative, collegial and growth-oriented work environment.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in collaborating with leaders and their team members at all levels of the organization to implement and manage initiatives that support the Campaign in its efforts to become a world-class employer.

What you’ll accomplish

Under the strategic direction of the Vice President and Chief People and Culture Officer, you will be a critical partner in a newly formed department, ensuring the organization is adopting best practices. You will be a member of a three-person People and Culture team, working in partnership with the VP and the People and Culture Business Partner to build a strong people operations foundation that will grow as our global organization of 150+ staff and consultants continues to grow.  Your role will focus on the following key areas:  

  • Talent Acquisition and Management:  You will own oversight of the integrity the Campaign’s newly implemented talent acquisition software, Lever TRM, and use it to continue to build scalable hiring practices, grounded in our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, with a focus on attracting and onboarding  great talent.  Providing guidance to the People and Culture Business Partner and in partnership with hiring   managers and their teams, you will ensure  the   department’s  understanding of hiring and development needs and identify the capabilities necessary to meet the Campaign’s business goals.  
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI):  You will continue to move forward the Campaign’s multi-year DEI journey, ensuring the work completed to date continues so the DEI commitments we have made become an integral part of who we are as an organization, incorporating our stated values.  Your work will include gathering and reporting on our progress on key DEI metrics and ensuring a continuous learning process for all team members, providing guidance to employees on what it looks like to live out our organizational values in all decisions, programs, and processes.
  • Leadership Development:   You will oversee the current leadership development initiatives, as well as research and implement as directed, new solutions for making our leaders better managers.   You will provide coaching and feedback to our existing leadership team. 
  • Employee Experience: You will create an employee experience which touches all points of the employee lifecycle, in support of the creation of a work environment in which all of our employees can thrive.  You will ensure a meaningful on-boarding experience for new staff, so they are clear on what it means to be a member of our team.  You will be the first point of contact for team members at all levels to guide and coach them on a variety of employee matters, ensuring the appropriate balance of our values/culture and alignment with needed compliance with federal, state and local employment laws to support the Campaign’s integrity as an employer.   You will gain an understanding of the developmental needs of our team members to inform the development of scalable learning and development efforts that aid in growing each team member’s capabilities and support employee retention.
  • People and Culture Operations Management.  You will own the management of several key HR operational programs that support the work of the Campaign, including, but not limited to our internship program, travel program and 
  • Technology Enablement:  You will take the lead on ensuring all people and culture processes at the Campaign are fully leveraged using all available technologies, with the goal of creating a user experience for all team members that is efficient, streamlined and user-friendly. 

Skills you’ll bring to this role

  • Proven success as an HR practitioner, reflected in a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least seven (7) years of experience to include experience supervising team members.  HR practitioner credentials (e.g., PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) or the equivalent is preferred, reflecting your knowledge of employment laws/regulations and your success in managing the daily operations of a viable people operations function.  Experience working in the non-profit industry is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in using strong verbal/written communications, analytical and problem-solving and project management skills to implement and manage a variety of people operations initiatives across a number of  areas, i.e., talent acquisition, benefits, compensation, employee engagement, learning and development, employee relations, policy development and compliance domestically and globally.
  • Strong HR technology skills, with a demonstrated understanding of how to leverage technology to streamline a people operations function.
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills to guide individual and group discussions to measurable outcomes.
  • An approachable demeanor that inspires trust and confidence from leaders and individual contributors.

Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000; commensurate with experience.

This position is based in Washington, DC and is open to US citizens and other applicants possessing work visas permitting long-term, permanent employment in the US. As a public health entity, CTFK requires all employees to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations (initial vaccinations and boosters).  The Campaign operates under a hybrid work environment, with all employees working a blended schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely.
