U.S. Tobacco Control
In the United States, we work at the federal, state and local levels to advance proven policies that reduce tobacco use and save lives.
Since our founding in 1996, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids has contributed to enormous progress. Over the past 30 years, our work has helped to reduce youth smoking by 95% and adult smoking by 63% and to protect about 200 million Americans – over 60% of the U.S. population – from harmful secondhand smoke.

Toll of Tobacco in the United States
Yet tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the U.S. And tobacco companies keep spending billions to market cigarettes while aggressively pushing new products – including e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches – designed to hook new customers and grow profits.

Proven Policy Solutions
We advocate for proven, lifesaving tobacco control policies at the federal, state and local levels in the U.S.
U.S. Legal Initiatives
Passing strong tobacco control policies is only part of our work – we also fight to defend these policies in court through an active litigation program.
In federal courts, we brought lawsuits against the FDA on behalf of public health organizations, pressing the agency to regulate the tobacco industry more aggressively. In other federal and state cases, we file amicus briefs – alongside public health, medical and community partners – to defend tobacco control measures against tobacco industry legal attacks.
