Our Work
The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and our Global Health Advocacy Incubator use the power of advocacy to confront the world’s most urgent public health challenges. We champion evidence-based policies that protect children, save lives and build a healthier, more equitable future for all.
Changing Policies. Saving Lives.
For 30 years, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids has stood at the forefront of the fight against tobacco use – taking on one of the world’s most powerful industries and advancing proven policy solutions across the United States and around the world. We’ve helped drive sharp declines in cigarette smoking among both youth and adults in the U.S., secure tobacco control laws in 65 countries, and save over 35 million lives in the countries where we work.
These results demonstrate the power of strategic advocacy to deliver lasting impact and save lives. In 2014, we built on these hard-won lessons by launching our Global Health Advocacy Incubator – expanding our advocacy model to tackle other pressing public health challenges worldwide.
U.S. Tobacco Control
Progress is real – but the fight isn’t over. Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, killing nearly half a million people and costing over $600 billion in healthcare expenses and lost productivity each year. We work at the national, state and local levels to advance proven policies that reduce tobacco use and save lives.
Global Tobacco Control
Tobacco use kills more than 7 million people worldwide each year, with the greatest burden falling on low- and middle-income countries aggressively targeted by the tobacco industry. We work with civil society organizations and governments in these countries to support the adoption and implementation of proven, lifesaving policies.
Global Health Advocacy Incubator
Our Global Health Advocacy Incubator applies our proven advocacy approach to other critical public health challenges across the globe – including food and nutrition policy, injury and overdose prevention, and building resilient, equitable health systems. We support local advocates, civil society organizations and governments to turn policy change into lasting public health progress.
Youth Advocacy
Young people are heavily targeted by the tobacco industry and other health-harming industries. They are powerful voices in educating their peers, holding industry accountable and advocating for change. Through our Youth Advocacy initiatives, we train, support and connect the next generation of public health leaders and advocates.
