Youth Advocacy

Young people are powerful voices in the fight against tobacco use. They educate their peers, stand up to the tobacco industry and its deceptive marketing, and urge elected leaders to take action. Through our Youth Advocacy initiatives, we train, support and connect the next generation of public health leaders and advocates.

Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action

Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action is our signature day of youth advocacy. Each year, young people across the U.S. come together to speak out against Big Tobacco, expose the industry’s tricks for addicting kids, and call for change.

National Youth Ambassadors

Our National Youth Ambassadors are U.S. high school and college students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in fighting tobacco use in their communities. These advocates are chosen annually as representatives of their state through a competitive application process. They receive comprehensive training, participate in advocacy activities throughout the year, and form lasting connections with fellow advocates.

Global Young Ambassadors

Our Young Ambassadors for Tobacco Control program, launched in 2022, aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of the global tobacco control movement by building the next generation of leaders. These young ambassadors are fighting for a healthier future through networks in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, coordinated by a global secretariat.

Youth Advocates of the Year Awards

Each year, we honor outstanding young leaders and public health champions at our Youth Advocates of the Year Awards. Honorees include our Barrie Fiske National Youth Advocate of the Year, Group Youth Advocates of the Year, and Global Young Ambassador of the Year.

Youth Engagement Alliance

The Youth Engagement Alliance (YEA) for Tobacco Control supports adult coordinators who work with youth in public health and commercial tobacco prevention and control efforts. YEA is powered by Truth Initiative and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
