Global Health Advocacy Incubator
Building on decades of hard-won lessons from the global fight against tobacco, our Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) tackles other critical public health challenges across the globe – including food and nutrition policy, injury and overdose prevention, and building resilient and equitable health systems. We work alongside local advocates, civil society organizations and governments to turn policy change into lasting public health progress.

Tackling the Top Causes of Preventable Death
GHAI supports local partners in addressing the world’s leading causes of preventable disease, injury and death. By mobilizing civil society movements and strengthening local advocacy capacity, we advance the policy and systems change that produces better health outcomes. Our areas of work:
Food and Nutrition
Unhealthy diets are one of the world’s leading drivers of preventable disease and death, responsible for about eight million deaths each year. Our Food and Nutrition Program advances policy advocacy campaigns to create healthy, sustainable food systems, reduce the demand for unhealthy, ultra-processed products and increase access to nutritious foods.
Health Systems Strengthening
Strong, equitable health systems save lives – but many low- and middle-income countries lack the financing and infrastructure to build them. GHAI works with governments and civil society to secure sustainable domestic financing for health, strengthen data systems and improve access to essential services.
Injury Prevention
Injuries and violence – including drowning, drug overdose and road crashes – kill 4.4 million people globally each year. Our Injury Prevention Program advances policies that save lives on the road and reduce deaths from drowning and overdose.
