Alejandra Leal of Mexico to Receive Global Health Advocacy Changemaker Award for Her Work Fostering Safer Mobility, Safer Roads and a More Inclusive Environment for all Mexicans

May 05, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and its Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) are pleased to present Alejandra Leal, a public health advocate in Mexico and Co-Director of Céntrico, with the Global Health Advocacy Changemaker Award. This award recognizes the achievements of an emerging public health leader working to advocate for life-saving public health policies that save lives, reduce disease and prevent injuries.

Alejandra will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 7, 2026. Working with GHAI’s Road Safety team, Alejandra has spent her career focused on advancing safe mobility and her contributions to mobility and road safety in Mexico exemplify vision and leadership.

Alejandra has successfully led advocacy efforts to improve health outcomes in Mexico. From advocating for safe mobility with the Coalicion Movilidad Segura, establishing the constitutional right to safe mobility for all Mexicans in 2020, passing safe mobility legislation in 2022 — a game changer for mobility —successfully defending safe mobility in Mexico’s Supreme Court in 2024 and working to align Mexico’s 32 states’ mobility and road safety laws with this federal law, Alejandra vision and efforts have positioned Mexico as a regional leader in Road Safety.

“We are thrilled to honor Alejandra Leal for her strong leadership and courage in advancing mobility and road safety in Mexico.” Through her efforts, she has fostered a safer and more inclusive environment for all Mexicans.” said Yolonda C. Richardson, President and CEO of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and the Global Health Advocacy Incubator. “Alejandra is an inspiring leader who is helping to create a healthier future for her country.”
