IT Trainer

The IT Trainer is responsible for developing a training strategy for on-line collaboration tools and creating and delivering training materials for Microsoft Office 365 and additional IT applications. Deliverables include training webinars, written documentation, video-based content, and other electronic formats.

Responsibilities also include tasks related to promoting best practices for the use of collaboration tools, to help resolve technical and workflow limitations and maintain momentum in using new technologies. This position is based in Washington, D.C. and is open to candidates who can permanently work in the United States.  The IT Trainer reports to IT Director Technology and Operations. 


  • Participate in IT Projects to design and develop learning materials and system documentation
  • Perform new hire IT onboarding training, as well as day-to-day application training as needed
  • Document IT service management processes and system configurations; support best practices for IT service delivery
  • Produce effective training presentations, tutorials, instructor and learner guides, lesson plans/exercises in multiple media and formats suitable to course audience
  • Create, review, and update training materials and documentation based on user feedback, course surveys, version updates, process changes and IT support tickets
  • Maintain, coordinate, and communicate training schedules with end users and stakeholders
  • Establish effective relationships throughout the organization, both within IT and across business units to identify/address gaps in user training
  • Assist IT staff in explaining complex technical concepts and business/data workflows to non-technical audiences
  • Provide training support for learning management systems and IT product launches

Required / Desired Skills

  • Work experience in developing role-based end user training materials for IT applications
  • Strong problem solving, oral presentation, technical writing, planning, and adult teaching skills
  • Work experience in the field of IT technical training and train-the-trainer training
  • Experience analyzing opportunities for improvement based on ITIL best practices.
  • Experience in developing training content (e.g. user manuals, exercises, and web-based training)


  • Ability to maintain professionalism to complete course objectives
  • Ability to adapt/respond in a customer-focused IT environment
  • Strong commitment to providing superior customer service
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to develop training content in collaborative team environment and work independently
  • Familiarity with ITIL is advantageous

Required Qualification:

  • 3+ years’ experience as a technical trainer
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institute in an area applicable to this position
  • ITIL Foundation certification
  • Azure/O365 certifications
