Summary Description

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is seeking a Grant Writer and Fund Development Managerto support an innovative Fundraising Program with a diverse donor base. The Manager will be asked to work in conjunction with the Vice President of Development and Strategic Alliancesand other members of the development staff to meet all planning and fundraising goals. The fundraising goal for the Grant Writer is reviewed and established annually. Required skills include: effective writing, broad-level research, strategic and creative messaging, donor cultivation, and the ability to maintain a tracking and response system to ensure grant compliance, reporting, and follow-through. This position reports to the Director of Fund Development.

The Grant Writer and Fund Development Manager serves as a key member of a five member Development Team and iscentral to the facilitation of a robust fundraising operation. She/he works closely with the team to track key funding requirements and metrics, produce effective written fundraising materials, and support the core operations and management of the department’s fundraising efforts.

An ideal candidate for this role will bring a strong background in grant writing, grants management, relationship management, prospect research and a proven record of successful grant tracking and reporting. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, a high degree of technological proficiency, familiarity with budgets and financial reporting, and the ability to rapidly adapt to new systems and information. A flexible and a collaborative approach is key to the Manager’s success.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Grants Management

  • Manage all grant reporting requirements and ensure all materials are prepared, reviewed and submitted on schedule.
  • Maintain a reporting calendar and prepare and manage a proposal development schedule from pre/post RFP to submission.
  • Provide regular reports to Development team on key milestones, deadlines and requirements.

Fundraising Writing

  • Prepare introductions, letters of intent, grant requests/proposals, grant reports, sponsorship package copy, individual donor appeals, and similar fundraising materials as required.
  • Interpret funding institution guidelines and requirements as well as review proposals for compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Understand and effectively communicate the goals, mission and vision of the Campaign.
  • Able to successfully and creatively discuss in person and on paper various fundraising approaches.

Prospect Research

  • Identify applicable funding opportunities (foundation, corporation and individual donor) and maintain a process of development, usage, and application.
  • Demonstrate a proven working ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse funding base.

Database Support

  • Manage data integrations and ensure data integrity between Raisers’ Edge and other relationship databases and systems as applicable.
  • Support data entry and management of fundraising pipelines and revenue tracking.
  • Assist in management and execution of all administrative donation processes.

Other Duties:

  • Be an active and engaged member of the Development team by offering inputs and ideas, participating in discussions on Development strategy and management, and helping peers to be successful in their roles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Development & Strategic Alliances.

Skills / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Non-Profit Management, Public Relations or other course of study that requires strong writing ability.
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in positions with direct applicability to the roles and responsibilities outlined for this position: Grant writing, donor database experience and demonstrated success in non-profit fundraising and grants management is required.
  • A high degree of technological proficiency; advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required and experience working in a fundraising CRM is strongly preferred.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail; proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to engage and effectively communicate with a broad range of individuals.
  • Adaptable, curious and articulate.
  • Ability to maintain an optimistic and positive working attitude.
