Legal Internship (Paid)

Summary Description

The Legal Intern will provide support for the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids state and local tobacco control advocacy efforts concerningFederal Drug Administration (FDA) regulations of the tobacco industry under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. This will include providing support for litigation activities, including legal research related to FDA regulation and the defense of state and local tobacco control laws. The position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports to the Staff Attorney and works with attorneys on the legal/regulatory team.

Open Opportunities for:

  • Fall: September 2019 - December 2019
  • Winter/Spring: January 2020 - May 2020
  • Summer: June 2020 - August 2020

NOTE: An internship can include one semester or all three semesters but cannot exceed more than 980 hours in a calendar year. (See below)

Requirements

The duration of the internship is negotiable with a commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per week during the fall, winter/spring semesters. For summer, the intern will be expected to work approximately 25 hours/week. Tobacco-Free Kids will work with interns to gain academic credit if applicable.

Skills

  • Excellent analytical skills and legal writing and research ability.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to be flexible and modify priorities as needed.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with only general supervision.
  • Currently enrolled in a law school in the United States.
  • Ability to work in the United States.
