33 years and counting ... pass the tax in 2010!

For ten years, the South Carolina Tobacco Collaborative has led a statewide effort to increase South Carolina's lowest in the nation cigarette tax. Although we've made steady progress on this issue, South Carolina's cigarette tax has remained unchanged since 1977.

Every year 5,300 kids in South Carolina become new, daily smokers. More than one hundred independent studies have proven that raising the price of cigarettes is the most effective means of keeping kids from smoking. It's past time for our legislature to take action on this life-saving measure.

The South Carolina Tobacco Collaborative consists of dozens of organizations, including the most recognized names in public health. We will continue to advocate for a 93-cent cigarette tax increase to bring our tax to $1.00 per pack. But we need YOUR help to finally get the WIN in 2010!
