Tell governors to protect kids from tobacco


Faith and Public Health Leaders Gathered in Charleston, South Carolina for a Southeast Regional Meeting in October of 2003.


Faith Leaders in gathered in Trenton, New Jersey in March of 2004 to call for a statewide smokefree workplace law.


Faith leaders, public health leaders, and tobacco farmers gathered in Raleigh, North Carolina to call for federal legislation to allow the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to regulate tobacco products.

2007

August, Tennessee - More than 30 faith leaders in Tennessee held a press conference in Nashville calling upon their members of Congress to support legislation authorizing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products. Read The Tennessean article.

July, Tennessee - More than 20 faith leaders in Tennessee sent letters to the Tennessee Congressional delegation urging them to support legislation authorizing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products.

June, Kansas - More than 20 Kansas faith leaders formed the Kansas Faith United Against Tobacco and sent letters to the Kansas Congressional delegation urging them to support legislation authorizing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products.

May, Virginia - More than 20 Virginia faith leaders formed the VA Faith United Against Tobacco Products and sent letters to the Virginia Congressional delegation urging them to support and cosponsor legislation authorizing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products.

May, Indiana - The Hoosier Faith and Health Coalition and the Monroe County Ministerium held a press conference in Bloomington calling upon their member of Congress to support legislation authorizing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products. See the Herald-Times article.

May, North Carolina - A diverse coalition of North Carolina faith leaders worked to enact a smoke-free workplace law in North Carolina by holding “Smoke-Free Sabbath” weekends in places of worship across the state.

April, Indiana - The Hoosier Faith and Health Coalition played a key role in successfully convincing the Indiana Legislature to support a substantial increase in the state's tobacco tax to fund tobacco prevention programs and health care expansion.

March, Alabama - Dozens of Alabama faith leaders came together to form Alabama Faith United Against Tobacco to call for statewide smoke-free workplace legislation. See the Aniston Star article.

March, Tennessee - At their national meeting in Nashville, the United Methodist Men joined Faith United Against Tobacco and began mobilizing their members across the country.

February - Twenty-five national faith leaders sent letters to all members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives urging them to support and cosponsor legislation authorizing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products.
